84. Al-Inshiqaaq

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنشَقَّتْ1

When the sky has split [open]

Izas samaaa'un shaqqat

وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ2

And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so]

Wa azinat li Rabbihaa wa huqqat

وَإِذَا ٱلْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ3

And when the earth has been extended

Wa izal ardu muddat

وَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتْ4

And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it]

Wa alqat maa feehaa wa takhallat

وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ5

And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] -

Wa azinat li Rabbihaa wa huqqat

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدْحًۭا فَمُلَٰقِيهِ6

O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it.

Yaaa ayyuhal insaanu innaka kaadihun ilaa Rabbika kad han famulaaqeeh

فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ7

Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand,

Fa ammaa man ootiya kitaabahoo biyameenih

فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًۭا يَسِيرًۭا8

He will be judged with an easy account

Fasawfa yuhaasabu hi saabai yaseeraa

وَيَنقَلِبُ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ مَسْرُورًۭا9

And return to his people in happiness.

Wa yanqalibu ilaaa ahlihee masrooraa

وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ وَرَآءَ ظَهْرِهِۦ10

But as for he who is given his record behind his back,

Wa ammaa man ootiya kitaabahoo waraaa'a zahrih

فَسَوْفَ يَدْعُوا۟ ثُبُورًۭا11

He will cry out for destruction

Fasawfa yad'oo subooraa

وَيَصْلَىٰ سَعِيرًا12

And [enter to] burn in a Blaze.

Wa yaslaa sa'eeraa

إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فِىٓ أَهْلِهِۦ مَسْرُورًا13

Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness;

Innahoo kaana feee ahlihee masrooraa

إِنَّهُۥ ظَنَّ أَن لَّن يَحُورَ14

Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allah].

Innahoo zanna al lai yahoor

بَلَىٰٓ إِنَّ رَبَّهُۥ كَانَ بِهِۦ بَصِيرًۭا15

But yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever of him, Seeing.

Balaaa inna Rabbahoo kaana bihee baseeraa

فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلشَّفَقِ16

So I swear by the twilight glow

Falaaa uqsimu bishshafaq

وَٱلَّيْلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ17

And [by] the night and what it envelops

Wallaili wa maa wasaq

وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا ٱتَّسَقَ18

And [by] the moon when it becomes full

Walqamari izat tasaq

لَتَرْكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَن طَبَقٍۢ19

[That] you will surely experience state after state.

Latarkabunna tabaqan 'an tabaq

فَمَا لَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ20

So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe,

Famaa lahum laa yu'minoon

وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقُرْءَانُ لَا يَسْجُدُونَ ۩21

And when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allah]?

Wa izaa quri'a 'alaihimul Quraanu laa yasjudoon

بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يُكَذِّبُونَ22

But those who have disbelieved deny,

Balil lazeena kafaroo yukazziboon

وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ23

And Allah is most knowing of what they keep within themselves.

Wallaahu a'lamu bimaa yoo'oon

فَبَشِّرْهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ24

So give them tidings of a painful punishment,

Fabashshirhum bi'azaabin aleem

إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍۭ25

Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted.

Illal lazeena aamanoo wa 'amilus saalihaati lahum ajrun ghairu mamnoon
